Measuring outcomes
A list of indicators to measure the Department's outcomes was included in the Department's first Statement of Intent in 2005. Since then we have developed a fuller understanding of the links between our outputs and the outcomes we are seeking to achieve, and how these contribute to the Government's goals.
Work on a framework for measuring outcomes has been completed. Further work is now under way on specific indicators needed to measure our progress towards achieving outcomes. Given that much of the Department's work is at present focused on designing and implementing reforms, it will be some time before the impact of these indicators can be fully assessed. The Department is therefore taking a developmental approach to indicators. This project is planned to be completed in 2006/07.
