*ARCHIVE* - BIA Update 43 - Public consultation on the guidance document, 'Assessing Alternative Solutions' 22 Nov 2004

The BIA seeks feedback on its proposed Assessing Alternative Solutions to be published as guidance information under section 175 of the Building Act 2004.

The BIA, as part of the development using a working group of Building Consent Authority (BCA) officers, tested the Assessing Alternative Solutions guidance information with several selected BCAs.

The intent of this document is to help BCAs recognise Alternative Solutions as such, and provide guidelines for accurate assessment in establishing compliance with the Building Code. It provides guidelines on the types of Alternative Solution proposal that exist and the issues that need to be considered when assessing them.

Assessing Alternative Solutions is divided into three sections. The first section contains administration and policy information relating to Alternative Solutions. The second section contains flowcharts and expanded checklists which include additional notes on assessing specific types of Alternative Solution. The third section contains working checklists for use with individual building consent applications.

The consultation document has been sent to interested stakeholders. If you have not received the document and would like to make a submission, you can download a PDF of the document from Consulting on. You can also obtain a hard copy by calling 0800 242 243 or emailing info@dbh.govt.nz
