Post-disaster building management guidance release

14 July 2014: MBIE has released two guides for building professionals on assessing buildings following emergencies such as earthquakes or flooding disasters.

These guides were developed in response to the Canterbury Earthquakes Royal Commission’s recommendations around changes related to rapid building safety evaluations after a disaster.

The guidance also allows for a more effective and efficient response in future events.

Building Controls Update No. 156: Part E: Repairing and rebuilding multi-unit residential buildings guidance released

16 April 2014: Part E provides assessment criteria and recommendations for the repair and rebuild of the foundations, firewalls, and superstructures of multi-unit residential buildings in Christchurch. It has been prepared for professional engineers, designers, building control officials, and others implementing the guidance.

Changes to enforcement processes affecting landlords and property managers

8 April 2014: A number of changes that will streamline court processes for collecting fines and civil debts come into effect on 14 April 2014, as a result of the Courts and Criminal Matters Bill. The Bill is the biggest change to civil enforcement since the District Courts Act was passed in 1947. The following information has been provided by the Ministry of Justice.

Building a Better New Zealand 2014 conference
