Value of non-residential building work are recording lower levels in the June quarter

The total unadjusted value of non-residential building work put in place for the September 2009 year was $5.168 billion; a 0.8 percent decrease from the previous September year. When adjusted for inflation, the trend value declined consecutively since the March 2009 quarter.

The issuing of non-residential building consents provides an indication of future levels of non-residential building work. As shown in Figure 9, the unadjusted value of non-residential building consents issued idecreased by 0.6 percent in December 2009 quarter compared with December 2008 quarter. A total of $4.526 billion worth of non-residential building consents were issued in the year ended December 2009.

Note: A quarterly trend series for the value of non-residential building consents is now available.  This series is estimated without the removal of large consent values.  The monthly trendseries which is estimated after the removal of consents valued at $25,000 or more is currently being reviewed by Statistics New Zealand and this information will not be available for now.
