Making it easier, cheaper and faster to build a simple house

New Zealanders wanting to own their first home should now be able to build it with ease thanks to the release of the Simple House Acceptable Solution.

The publication outlines a framework for architects, designers and builders to develop modest, affordable houses that will make the consenting process easier and quicker, without compromising design or quality.

It’s one of the initiatives under the Better Building Blueprint to support standardised solutions to deal with simple, straightforward consents.

To illustrate what can be achieved by using the Acceptable Solution, Housing New Zealand Corporation is building a house, based on the Acceptable Solution, on a site in Auckland.

The design for the house will be based on the Supreme Award winning entry from the Starter Home Design competition run last year. The competition aimed to encourage architects, designers and builders to come up with innovative and affordable solutions showing what can be achieved with limited resources.
